Personal essay experience
I'm a musician so everyday I'm doing something that involves music. The list of experiences I have under my belt is endless. Lately I have been looking at pictures from previous bands, watching old videos, and listening to music I have created in the past to dig up the best memories I have. I have narrowed it down for a few ideas and now it's time to pick the best idea that has some substance to it, but not too much because I could write a novel on some of the stories I have.

Certainly it's great to pick as a writing topic something you're passionate about! And you're wise to think about how to limit yourself when you know so much about a topic. In addition to your memories, think about what you have to say to a reader about music (or a particular musician or experience you've had). You might want to think about how music fits into your life, what effect it's had on you, etc. Is there a more gneral point or issue you're writing about that non-musicians can connect to on some level--about creativity or spirituality or I don't know what??
